影視雜感-新娘大作戰 (Bride Wars)

由安海瑟薇 (Anne Hathaway)與凱特哈德森 (Kate Hudson)為主角的電影－新娘大作戰 (Bride Wars)，導演是蓋瑞溫尼克 (Gary Winick)。

嚴格來說，應該說是一部喜劇片吧，尤其是兩個新娘互相惡搞對方的時候，嗯，不得不說，兩人其實對彼此是多麼的了解。雖然我對結局有點意外，我原本是以為會是原本的配對，不過看到後來，嗯，好吧，確實，比起愛情，友情更經得起考驗。

當中有提到『Something Four』，也就是西方婚禮的習俗，伴娘要為新娘準備四種東西，也就是：

Something old.

Something new.

Something borrowed.

Something blue.

舊的、新的、借來的、藍色的四樣東西。

這四樣東西各有不同的意涵：

Something old，代表新娘的過去與原生家庭。

something new，代表新娘的新的家庭生活與未來。

Something borrowed，代表新娘從親朋好友傳承過來的幸福，也代表將來可以得到他們的支持。

something blue，代表新娘的端莊與忠貞。

最原始的版本則是有五樣東西：

Something old.

Something new.

Something borrowed.

Something blue.

And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

舊的、新的、借來的、藍色的，以及放在新娘鞋子的六便士銀幣，不過這個六便士銀幣後來應該取得不易，所以就被省略了吧。

這個銀幣則是代表新娘的將來是富有、充裕的。

而至於為甚麼在眾多色彩中選擇藍色的意義是，據說在古羅馬時期，藍色是象徵新娘的愛、端莊或謙遜、忠貞，以及純潔。在19世紀末之前，西方新娘婚紗顏色多採用藍色，這點從俗語『Marry in blue, lover be true』中就可以得到驗證。

除了這部電影以外，其實很多地方都曾經提到這個習俗。

例如貓王曾經唱過一首歌，歌名就叫做：『Something Blue』，其歌詞如下。

And that's why I'm something blue

Something new, the price I paid

Something borrowed, love was tried but not true

另外一個例子，小澤真理子的漫畫『單親樂章』（台灣是由尖端出版，已完結），也有提到這個習俗。

其他還有許多電影裡也有提到，我記得有一部片子是女主角要結婚了，有人，好像是他父親，送給他一雙在鞋子上有藍色花朵裝飾的借來的鞋子。

可見得這個習俗算是一種蠻廣為人知，同時也被許多創作者，不管是文字、影視、漫畫等都廣泛運用的西方結婚禮俗。

A sixpence is a coin that was minted in Britain from 1551 to 1967. It was made of silver and worth six pennies. So this wedding tradition is definitely English, and many sources say that it began in the Victorian era.

Each item in this poem represents a good-luck token for the bride. If she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy. "Something old" symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past. "Something new" means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead. "Something borrowed" is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride.
